Southern California fashion has a flavor distinctly it’s own. With the sprawling coastline, rows of palm trees dotting (nearly) every street and a permanent vacation climate as influences, it’s no wonder why so many of use are head-over-heels for bohemian styles, bright colors and breezy silhouettes. But particularly in Los Angeles, we’ve, Los Angeles adopted a hybrid bohemian-meets-cosmopolitan tang that sets it apart from the rest of the SoCal pack…and most other cities as well.
And that, my friends, is the ideology behind this look.
It’s a fine balancing act between finding clothes that adhere to both city chic and beautiful bohemian criteria. As a matter of fact, they’re often impossible to blend. But executed properly, these looks are captivating—not to mention Instagram gold.
Ever since I laid eyes on one of their strappy bralettes, For Love & Lemons has been one of my very favorites. Founded right here in Los Angeles, this wild-child, made-for-Coachella line has evolved into a major trendsetting brand in just a few short years (remember the super-sexy, sheer floral-embroidered Luau dress that basically everyone was wearing last summer? You can see it right here). This is one version of their Barcelona dress, which launched as a maxi last fall. However, with its crazy popularity to thank, the dress has been reproduced in several color variations in both long and short versions, not to mention a two-piece crop top and skirt set as well. Foregoing the lengthier version, I picked this pretty A-line dress in old gold, in part because it’s ahhh-mazing and also because it’s got a color that could really work for any season.
Also, just look at the incredible attention to detail here—light-as-air chiffon fabric, delicate velvet embroidery, masterful patterning, subtle latticed cutouts and flawlessly cut silhouette make this flared-sleeved sheath a bohemian dream.
Now to add in some polished elements to offset any overly boho vibes, I picked a pair of retro Wildfox cat eye sunglasses and my favorite lace-up Chinese Laundry heels. And of course, a few brassy-gold necklaces and pair of triangle earrings completed the look.
